handyman 1 #1 Posted April 14, 2009 I have an '85 416-8 with no engine. It originally had the single cylinder Kohler. I have found an 18 horse Magnum twin that I can put in. What do I have to change on the wiring since the original engine was point ignition and the Magnum is an electronic setup. I recall seeing that the ignition switch is different but do I have to change wiring? What years did they put the twin Magnum in the 416 and 418. I guess I could try to compare the wiring schematics. Thanks.

stevebo-(Moderator) 8,527 #3 Posted April 14, 2009 I know my 85 416 has a K series which I think were the factory motor for 85 and 86. 87 is the first year of the magnum. I do not know what needs to be done to get the 18hp in there. Good luck-
Buzz 502 #4 Posted April 14, 2009 In 1987 the 416-6 model # 31-16K803 had a M16S-711523 engine and the 418-8 model # 31-18K801 had a M18QS-24510 engine. If you go here: https://lookup3.toro.com/request/request.cfm and enter 31-16K803 for model number and "none" for the serial number you can download the 523 pg. Electricial Demystification guide for the wiring diagrams. Have fun.
