JaysHorse 287 #1 Posted August 10, 2019 So as a lot of you know I recently picked up a C-145. I sold the engine with the intentions of giving this tractor a little more power with a Onan p218g. Well today was the day I started this project. I mowed the grass one last time with my 518H. It was a sad moment but she knows her parts will be put to good use. I pulled led the motor today and got it set on the new whip. Tomorrow I am hoping to remove the harness and get that all wire up into the “C”. The 518 has an electric lift that will be available in the classifieds along with all hardware for it in anyone is interested. Here he is my progress....... 3
Pullstart 59,727 #3 Posted August 10, 2019 Cool project, just curious what’s wrong with the 518?

That and I really want the hydro and the sunstrand seems to be pretty quiet. Edited August 11, 2019 by JaysHorse
JaysHorse 287 #6 Posted August 11, 2019 Coming along nicely. Only one snag and that is the drive belt length. Any ideas? The original and the one off the 518 seem to be about an inch short
troutbum70 857 #7 Posted August 11, 2019 I would think a half inch belt an inch longer, if that is possible. Or move the engine back to make up the difference if possible. That 145 is going to be a power house when your finished. Smaller pulley at the rear, but not sure how that would work out overall. GOOD LUCK 1

The original and the one off the 518 seem to be about an inch short I've changed pulleys or engines on 3 tractors so far. I went down to the local auto parts store and bought 3 "close" sizes and returned the ones I didn't need. 2
JaysHorse 287 #9 Posted August 11, 2019 Anyone know the length of the original belt on the 145? Also anyone know what the trick is to getting the bolt on the under side of the gas tank out. It just spins.
troutbum70 857 #10 Posted August 11, 2019 I some one has an answer on the bolt that spins, I have one I am trying to get apart with the same problem. First bolt came right out, 2nd bolt being a pain in the butt and no way to get to it.

Did you use the engine pulley from the C-145? I think I remember you saying the 518 was a manual transmission. The hydro engine pulley is larger. Both of my hydros use a 5/8" wide 82" long belt, 5L-820 or B-79.

I wasn’t able to get the pulley off the old k321. Almost looks like the pulley o the transmission of the 145 is a bit bigger. Wondering if I could swap pulleys off the hydros? The pulley on the 145 is finned and the one on the 518 has a separate cooling fin.
JaysHorse 287 #13 Posted August 11, 2019 Wondering if tractor supply will have a belt that will work

JaysHorse 287 #15 Posted August 11, 2019 So the original is 84”. Picked up an 85” and 86”. 85” wins. 3
troutbum70 857 #16 Posted August 11, 2019 So on a hydro the belt goes under the tensioner pulley, I have never had an automatic per say. I have one that's a parts tractor but it never had a drive belt as it never had an engine.

JaysHorse 287 #18 Posted August 13, 2019 UPDATE......So got the engine in and partially wired up to make it run. THIS IS ONE BADASS MACHINE!!!!! And very fast. Not sure y but it is way faster than it ever was.
ebinmaine 63,141 #19 Posted August 13, 2019 Assuming you have the same size engine pulley your speed should not change simply because of gearing. However, you did add a fair amount of torque. That by itself would make the machine both more efficient and more powerful.
JaysHorse 287 #20 Posted August 13, 2019 I didn’t use the pulley off the old motor. Not sure if they are same size but I am happy with my decision. Just got to cut in a few gauges and button it up for now. Grass needs mowing. 😂 1
