TractorActor 3 #1 Posted August 10, 2019 50 year old K-241 puffs white smoke at start up and when I increase the throttle, Doesn't smoke otherwise. I heard maybe valve guides ? Any thoughts ? Thanks
posifour11 723 #2 Posted August 10, 2019 I would think rings first. But, I'll be corrected quickly by better brains.
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,490 #3 Posted August 10, 2019 Should service the crankcase breather if it has not been done for a while. Also make sure the dip stick is sealed. Between the two of them they should keep the crankcase under a vacuum when running and if either fail it is easy for oil to get sucked past the rings and valves. That sounds about normal for a 50 year old Kohler. Bet Garry is right about that breather
