Cellis2378 10 #1 Posted July 30, 2019 Lost spark. Installed new condenser, points, and ignition coil. Spark plug wire shows continuity. Still no sparks. Any ideas ? Ignition coil ohms out at 5.28 I have read anything between 2–5ohms is good.
953 nut 59,800 #2 Posted July 30, 2019 Have you tried putting an ohm meter from the points/coil wire to ground and rotating the engine to see that there is a make and break occurring at the points?
Cellis2378 10 #3 Posted July 30, 2019 No I will give that a try
wallfish 18,072 #4 Posted July 30, 2019 New points come with a coating over the contacts to keep them from oxidizing. You didn't mention a new plug. And as many here have found out that sometimes a plug will spark when it's out of the head but will not fire under the compression when it's installed.
Tuneup 1,452 #5 Posted August 2, 2019 C'mon Cellis, we're dying to hear! Old points ignitions are easy and you've replaced all the parts but the plug. If the test above passes, and you have a new plug on it, jump the battery (+) to the (+) on the coil to bypass any old wiring and it just has to have a spark - if the battery is grounded properly for the engine... Wish I was there to help. Seems there's no one with old tractor needs in north Georgia. It's all MTD ...

The K-90 did not have a battery ignition system unless it has been modified. They have a magneto coil and and flywheel magnets, the points set the ignition timing. If it were a battery ignition system your suggestion would be a good one.

I stand corrected.
Cellis2378 10 #8 Posted August 4, 2019 Replaced the plug. All continuity seems to be right. Test resistance in new coil. It’s a little above 5 ohms.
AMC RULES 37,196 #9 Posted August 4, 2019 You did clean the points too?
Cellis2378 10 #10 Posted August 4, 2019 yes cleaned the points. When I run a ohm meter from the points coil wire to ground and rotate the engine. I never get a break. So what does that mean
Cellis2378 10 #11 Posted August 4, 2019 Also put new spark plug wire on it
