peter lena 9,316 #2 Posted July 31, 2019 remove battery, that will give you access to linkage and pin. before you remove it, note all the gap in the pivot point on the linkage. i washer ed up that gap first and lubricated it, that also tightened up the outside lever gap to engage PTO. since filling the linkage gaps, the linkage works with total mechanical ease. what are you pulling it for ? pete.

I am pulling because I think the Rod might be bent I just bought the tractor a 417/a and having trouble getting the PTO to engage I want to compare the rod to my 312/8 I have gone through many adjustment and new clutch disc the last thing to check I think is the adjustment rod although on a different post someone did mention a the Hoop may not be correct for the PTO so just trying to narrow down and trouble shoot the issue. From a former CT guy thank you
peter lena 9,316 #4 Posted July 31, 2019 that hoop issue could be the could be the triangular top lever on the engine mount. , i experimented with moving the lever under the engine bracket , that gave me the free swing space i needed to use the hoop in a lower location, with much smoother engagement . i have 3 horses , set up the same way , chances are the rod is not the issue , but the angle its trying to work with . i also added a heim joint to the end of each rod, eliminating that clevis joint. i would still washer up/ tighten the lever swing point next to battery , that was a poor detail design, making it a solid/ tight lever swing totally changes its action. pete

Thank You Joe
peter lena 9,316 #7 Posted July 31, 2019 it is NOT just a straight rod, but has a tight 90 degree end bend, ( that you should tighten up with added washers for a more direct action ) on the dash board end. then it has an angular rise to meet the pto hook up and that end is threaded for the clevis to pto fit. take it apart slowly and look at what you can tighten up ( with washers ) and work it at stages to verify a gain or the same. pete
