1991 244-H Onan Engine adjusting carb

How should the two adjusting screws be set. I cleaned the carburetor, and I want to make sure it is properly set. Thanks.

Initial settings should be in the service manual. These have been determined to allow the engine to run and that is all. Once running they need to be adjusted again for optimum performance. Reason being no two engines are alike and fine tuning overcomes the differences.

Garry, Thanks for sending that link. The manual has some great information, and I appreciate your taking the time to provide it.

What should the rpm's be for the high and low idle speed?

From the operator manual

1200/1600 rpm no load idle speed

3350 rpm no load governed max speed

Thanks, Gary.

The mower starts well and runs even with the mower for about15 minutes. It turns over but won't start.

I started troubleshooting with the least invasive options and then progressed, i.e. checked the belt, checked and greased spindles on the deck, checked and changed the spark plug, changed the air filter and pre-screen, changed the oil and oil filter, drained the gas and cleaned the gas tank, checked the gas filter, and removed and cleaned the carburetor.

The problem has not gone away.

I want to check the rpms and make sure the high and low speed settings are ok.

One issue with the 244 is parts availability. most of the parts are not readily available, and I don't want to pour a lot of money into a machine that isn't worth much. On the other hand, I like working on it.

Have you tried loosening the gas cap in case the tank air vent is plugged?

Yes. I bought a new gas cap for that model.
