So guys I got a 1985 310-8 noticed it's leaking some oil at the oil pan and before I got tearing into I was hoping a few people on here could shed some light on what I'm in-store for and maybe some things to look out for. Thanks for any help in advance I really appreciate it

Unless the engine was recently opened up ol pan gasket leaks are not that common.  Are you sure it isn't oil running down from the breather assembly on the front of the engine under the carb?  If it really is oil pan gasket it isn't difficult as you 1985 didn't have a low oil switch. There were different oil pans used to be sure you get the right gasket what is the spec number of the engine??.

If all you plan to do is change the gasket it really doesn't involve much. The biggest effort will be disconnecting the electricals and mechanical linkages.Photos of routing and connections before removal will help when reinstalling the engine.Drain the engine oil and remove. The engine is held to the frame by 4 bolts. Two from the top and two out of sight from underneath.Like all of the M and K series, these engines are heavy chunks of cast iron.Put the engine on a bench or work table and take off the four pan base bolts and lift the block off the pan.Flush out the oil pan with solvent.Clean gasket off both surfaces being careful to remove all the bits form the engine interior.I usually don't use any gasket sealant on a new gasket but that is an option.Mount the gasket and block on the pan. Reinstall the four bolts.Reverse the removal steps and refill with 2 quarts of 30 weight.

Paul is right about an unmolested oil pan gasket leaking. That is generally not common. If the engine is original to your 310 it should have a rubber tube connecting the breather cover to the air cleaner base. The cover gasket could be leaking or the tube damaged. You may want to clean the engine with a degreaser to determine where the leakage comes from before wrenching on it.

Thanks for all the replies, the spec number on the motor is 46849 I'm sure it's the oil pan gasket I fired the motor up and watched for leaks and I seen it coming out of the oil pan in a few different places

and the Khler engine site is having issues again says it doesn't recognize my zip code so I cant look there

There are only 2 gaskets one is for the small base block as used on the isolation mounts.  Since the 310 is frame mounted the gasket would be 235057 large block.
