Recommended Posts

C145 with a K14 Kohler motor has been hard to start. Now has shut off and cannot start. I have put on a new coil, 2nd one this season. I cannot get plug to fire. could it be the ingnition box on front of motor?

If by ignition box you mean the points cover they very possibly could be your issue.  Take the cover off gap them to .020 and clean them with a metal points file (or you r wife's metal nail file.  No emory boards.

Did you test the coils that you think failed??

Yes I tested the coil with ohm meter and according to what i see this one is OK. I will check the points. Never have done that so I will do that next.

.Thanks

A new set of points at the local parts store was 7 bucks.  I bought a spare, given how many Kohler run around my place.  It’s amazing what a new set’ll do for ya!

Does it crank? Have you checked the safeties? What about the ignition switch?

I just resurrected my C-105 that had sat for four years. It ran the last time I used it which was the morning I broke my ankle. One thing I had to do was replace the fuel line as mice had found it tasty! I finally replaced the line two weeks ago and thought it should be good to go. It cranked but didn't start. There wasn't a spark so checked the points. Cleaned the contacts on the ignition switch but finally did a continuity check on the switch. The switch had gone bad probably due to the way it is oriented on the dash at an angle allowing weather - or just gave up the ghost being 34 years old. With the new switch it started right away. Now to deal with a reluctant Bendix!

Has new fuel line, checked at carb  and gets plenty of fuel. Checked the switch and all power is good there. Power to coil is good to + line. I checked the points and they are pretty used up. Also I'm not sure if the coil is OK. I get 4.5 M ohms from plug outlet to + line, nothing to - line. Pt a NAPA coil on it with a resistor and ran good till it shut off yesterday. Now I can' get it going. Not much on small engines so I'm kinda lost. Thinking on doing a complete new ignition parts.

It's a hydro so its sitting in the middle of the yard. Dang thing doesn't push at all.

Put your motion control lever in the foward position and you should be able to push slowly. It may make a clicking noise while pushing, just don’t pull it. I have 2 C-145’sand can push both in this manner.

Wish I could move it but I can't do it by myself. Frickin old age just sucks. And my helper is unable to help. I guess I'll just fix it in the yard.

I had a C145 that had a main fuse that the holder rotted and killed the ign system

Tuneup

Points and condenser first and then remember that the NAPA coil can be hit or miss. My first one died in less than 10 minutes on a good regulator. Talking the coil with added internal resistance here. The second has been good for 3 years.

I got a couple more thing to do. Waiting on a coil because locally they want $100 for one. Someday I will get my yard mowed.

I need to get my 520H fixed. Engine shot. Got a another for it but my health is ruining my ability to get this done.
