Alright, DB front mount sickle bar on a Wheel Horse?

Just a small adjust i bet, but the Engine sounds good.

maybe engage first gently with less rpm and than increase the throttle.

Agree with "engage at idle" for sure.

You'll find a lot of sickles run a pretty low speed.

May want to run it the time at about half throttle (or even less like a Wheelhorse sickle.)

 

Engine sounds great!

 

Don't forget to re-torque  the head.

 

Good change to your audio as well.

Thanks for the input fellas!  I did try shortly after to run at low rpms and it helped a bunch.  Remember too, the David Bradley engine has a very small engine pulley, so it’s overdriving already.  Does it seem out of balance with the wider bar, or just too much rpm still?  It shakes like crazy!

If there is a way to disconnect the cutting bar from the pulley assembly, try that, then engage.

 

That would isolate the difference between the cutting bar and the pulley system being the issues.

 

You're shaking may very well be due to centrifugal circular forces changing to side to side vibration.

I know you did a lot of work into alignment,

but if you able i would suggested to build a second „reducer pair“ in the Drivetrain.

 

2 pulleys in different sizes, maybe you have them in spare,

that could solve you speed Problem and the disalignment wasn‘t that critical.

I would guess 1/2 the speed you use now and you‘re fine.

 

About the Shaking, 😂

i see the wobble on your Hood, looks funny.

to remove that shake or wobble there are 2 simple solutions:

1. reduce the movement speed

2. Work with more counterweight on the opposite of the sicklebar lever.

 

As i seen, there is allready a counterweight on the edge, maybe you can exchange it with some heavier,

that will eliminate the shaking a bit better.

 

I have the same result on my Hedgetrimmer i built, i work with lower speed, than the shaking goes low,

so i must drive very slowly, but it works perfect with low speed even on thicker branches it cuts like a knive in butter.

 

may you have a doublepulles from an electric clutch, there is the alignment not too differently, 

or you dealing with a Lathe and built one yourself. 2 shorter Belts and you are back in Business.👍

I toyed with the idea of a jackshaft to reduce the drive speed, thanks for the reminder!  I don’t think it’ll be too hard to move the belt to the outer PTO groove and jack shaft back into alignment  :handgestures-thumbupright:

 

I bet too, if I build solid engine mounts for the cradle it’ll help reduce the huge vibrations!

I am looking around for some deck parts to help @FAST with some needs and figured out the deck double pulley might be what I need to slow the mower drive down.  I might even be able to incorporate a :wh: spindle into the mix to get my fix!

He needed the outer pulleys and spindle shafts.  I am toying with the idea of using the center double pulley as a jack shaft to slow the DB mower down.  

 

I found two 5/8” shaft pulleys that are 9” and 6-3/4” diameters, I’m going to try to turn the big hub down to receive the small hub and use the long spindle shaft to build it all with.

I turned the jaws around then cut a pocket in the big pulley and the little one is a slip fit inside there.  It’s not quite short enough, so I’m going to chuck the spindle shaft up in the lathe and try to relieve the blade end of it to get some more length out of the matter.

Maybe it is a solution if you set a sqarepipe with about 2“ above the top of the Sicklebar column

where the squarepipe is allready welded in

and welded on this a mounting plate for the Jackshaft.

Than you will be as far as i can esimate it in the pictures are able to lift it about 1,5 to 2“ in the height.

At least you shall be able to forward it also about 3,5 - 4“, what shall be enough space to not touch the Hood

and even be able to open it later for Service purposes.

 

but this are just estimates on the Pics.

Yep, I’ll work on a mount plate for the spindle, then figure out where it might fit best.  Using the outside pulley, I have more room to clear the hood too.

When i was a youngster, we had in Munich a U.S. Base, called the Mc Graw Area.

There was each year a nice Festival on spring.

On that Festival they had each year a Bullriding what was allready funny enough,

until we developed the idea, to ride with one hand in the strap and a Cup of your beloved Beverage in the other hand..😂

 

We payed each another the full Cup the the rider can drink what was in the Cup after the Bull stops.

 

One of my funniest memory😂😂😂😂

Found some various sized belts, came up with a mock-up.  It doesn’t look too out of place!

The railroad piece / anvil does a decent job holding the weight of the spindle, maybe it needs to become part of the Edward Scissor Hands attachment?

I doubt that it will be in place while mow...😅

or did you plan to install Railway’s in you fields?😂

 

Think it‘s allready heavy enough, you don’t need more Weight even against shaking.

except you add a bit more to the Counterweight or extend the length as you allready mentioned.

 

How about a Top cover, where the Spindlemount for the Jackshaft will be Welded on.

In that case you are simply able to disassemble the Top cover for service the Spindle of the Sicklebar either.
