New Wheel Horse owner!

Recommended Posts

Fireguy0311

Hey everyone! I just picked up my very first Wheel Horse. I got a 656 with a deck and blade. It runs decent, but I’m thinking I’ll rebuild the carb and throw a new air filter on there. I’ve been looking online, but was curious where the best sites to get parts are? Specifically for a carb rebuild kit? Thanks!

Welcome to Redsquare @Fireguy0311!  That 656 should be powered by a Tecumseh engine.  I had good luck tossing a Kohler carb on it, as the Tecky’s are known for being hard to tune.

@Fireguy0311

Welcome welcome to Redsquare!

Take take a few minutes and peruse our vendors section. There are great resources available to us for the maintenance, restoration and repair of our tractors.

If if there is a specific part that you are in need of, please do post it in the WANTED section. It's likely you'll be able to find it through one of our members or vendors.

I've been buying my carburetor kits for all of my small engines from Lincoln at A to Z tractor lately.

I believe that’s been repowered with a tiller or snowblower engine, hence the attached fuel tank.  I have had good luck with snowblower engines because they run in generally clean environments.... but as far as tractor related engine parts go, it might get dicey.  Pictures are worth a thousand words!  Nice clean machine you’ve got there :handgestures-thumbupright:

The Tecumsehs in that vintage could have had a fuel tank bolted to the engine instead of where it is on other tractors.

for $200 that was about as close to theft as you're going to get. Congratulations!

Personally, I wouldn't waste my time rebuilding a Teccy carb. New ones are as cheap as a rebuild kit and they work well.

Yea, I just pulled that thing off. It’s it rough shape. Anyone know where I can get a new one of these? I’d like to replace that entire assembly if I could. All the springs are busted.

Thanks for all the help so far!  I mowed for the first time yesterday and wouldn't you know it, all the belts except for my main drive belt broke...  Not super surprised since they are about as old as I am.  Does anyone happen to know the part numbers for the 2 deck belts and the belt that goes from the engine to the deck?

May not be the correct deck model number but the belts will be the same. Click on the pictures
