Firebug 267 #1 Posted July 7, 2019 I got this 310-8 as part of a deal a couple months ago. I had every intention of cleaning it up and listing it for sale. Well one thing led to another, as it always does. My wife drove it around the property to do some gardening and fell in love with it. It appears that this one is staying put for her. Was pretty rough when I got it. Some spare back tires off a parts tractor I had and changed changed the front spindles, put on 8 inch front tires. New battery and it fired right up. Changed all the fluids, tune up and some small repairs and it’s been a very reliable tractor for her. I’m surprised at how much power that 10 hp has. I spent some time buffing out the paint and it came out better than I thought. Still have some pto issues to work out to use the deck that came with it, which is solid with only minor surface rust. She named it pediddle because it has the headlight out, not sure if I want to fix it or just leave it alone 8

Adds a nice touch.
Firebug 267 #3 Posted July 7, 2019 I had that seat recovered last winter. Not the original pattern but she used a good quality atv/ snowmobile seat material. She was able to save the horsehead and stitched it on to the back pad. I was waiting for the right tractor to put it on. Think I found it
The Tuul Crib 7,339 #4 Posted July 7, 2019 I really like the trailer Bill ! Where did you find it!!
Firebug 267 #5 Posted July 7, 2019 That’s a tractor supply trailer. I think around $150. Has a 1400 pound capacity. Does have a tailgate to it. All sides are removable to use as a flat bed. It’s just some particle board scraps I had laying around since it has a mesh floor. Doesn’t hold topsoil to well. Handle is reversible to pull by hand. But why do that when I can tow it with a horse
The Tuul Crib 7,339 #6 Posted July 7, 2019 I might have to check into that one. The one I got now is great and all but I think I could use a little bigger one.
Firebug 267 #7 Posted July 7, 2019 That’s what I keep saying about this one. But every time I use it it just keeps proving its worth so I have trouble justifying the expense of a new trailer
JCM 10,170 #8 Posted July 7, 2019 I have a question about the 6 inch to 8 inch upgrade on the front rims. I have a 312-8 1989 that I bought new and was never a fan of the 6 inch fronts, do you know if the different spindles are still available and possibly what the part # is for them,I assume they need to be shorter because of the taller rim? Also, does the tractor still sit the same, level with the 8 inch rims because of the spindle change. Thanks Jim
Firebug 267 #9 Posted July 7, 2019 I don’t know the part number, these were on a c 161 parts tractor I have. They are shorter to compensate for the taller tires. I does still have the same level stance. The only thing I noticed is at a full left turn the tire occasionally bumps the mule drive, doesn’t rub, just bumps it. Part of that may be due to not having pto belts on it so the mule drive is hanging all the way down with no tension on it
pfrederi 18,633 #10 Posted July 7, 2019 Nice tractor i have one amazing power. i too swapped out front spindles and tires also went with 23" in the rears. She is a chore tractor with a heavy duty receiver hitch for pulling trailers big Ags and a 10 pinion differential for more traction...
Firebug 267 #11 Posted July 7, 2019 It came with 22-7-50-12 tears on it. I had never seen that size before. I put on the 23-8.5-12 spares I had. I also have a set of 23-9.5-12 ags I can put on it. Is the 22-7.5-12 the correct size for that tractor. I don’t know much about the 10 pinion rear end. I have a c160 that will be my chore tractor, bottom plow, tiller, etc. is that an upgrade I should consider? I know those rear ends also came with bigger axles. How do you tell the difference between them?

You stop up sometime and we'll go through the parts pile. 1

Thanks Jim Even only changing the tire/rim combo it's only 1/2-3/4" (from center of spindle) change in front ride height (15"tire/6"rim 16"tire/8" rim)...not as overly raked as a '60s Gasser...then for mowing just a simple deck leveling...but if you must keep it level then yes you will need the spindles as well.
Firebug 267 #16 Posted July 8, 2019 That isn’t that dramatic as it sounds
Ed Kennell 41,775 #17 Posted July 8, 2019 I left the long spindles on my 312 when I changed to the 8" wheels. The extra clearance under the front axle allows a little more welcomed lift height for the snow plow and front tiller.
Firebug 267 #18 Posted July 8, 2019 I’ve never heard of or seen a front tiller. I like that. Would that fit a c series in addition to the 3-4 series

Thanks Jim I went with Deestone Tri ribs 16 x 400 x 8, 4 ply ( they measure a full 16" height) on 3" wide trailer rims that we had to take 3/4" of the hubs. I took it off the front side to widen the track. Use the 6" spindles I had reinforced with 1/4" angle. I had already installed 25 x 900 x 12 All Trail II on the rear and and raised fender bracket , gas tank and fender 1 3/4" it leveled out with the front wheels and tires. Firebug 267 #22 Posted July 8, 2019 I am having my wheel hubs milled to remove the 3/4 inch so they fit on the hubs. I wasted to take it off the outside but I have a grease fitting in the way. I had to take it all off the back side
