My PTO does not stay engaged all the time.

Once in a while it flips out on its own.

Is this a tension adjustment or something more sinister? Nos deck and mule drive

Trunnion at the PTO end needs to be rotated ccw a few turns most likely.I would try that first.

agree with the trunnion adjustment, it has to be free to go past stop and hold in place, pete

Noticed that after it warmed up it seems to stay engaged and maintain full blade speed.  No slipping

If it is to tight then it won't snap into place. You also will see a large deflection in the clutch rod.If you have never adjusted the trunnion in the past, then normal wear will cause the clutch rod not to stay locked into place.Once warmed up heat from the engine causes the clutch rod to lengthen enough to keep the clutch

engaged.

Give it a couple of turns to loosen it up and try it Terry. PTO lever has to get X number of degrees past center to lock. You're prolly a couple of turns off.

I've had to adjust mine in the past for the same issue. I loosened it  full turns and it hasn't done it since.

However, does anyone know if its normal for the pto to turn seemingly full speed while NO attachment and/ belt are installed?

When this happens, I turn it off and the pto spins for a while afterwards

The brake pad needs adjusting or pad material replaced and adjusted...https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fp%2F665279515...

It appears the PTO brake is not releasing.  Going to let it cool and adjust it. Might solve all my problems.  Dont know why I didn't notice that sooner.

I guess the Toro dealer didn't check the idler pulleys when installing my Nos deck.

The right side pulley was black from heat of the belt sliding on a stuck pulley.  After removing said pulley it has a 1 inch shim and one washer

But was not enough for the pulley to clear the deck bracket pictured below. I was lucky enough to find 2 washers to add to the shims

And now the deck spins as it should.  No wonder the deck slowed in taller grass. Now it cuts through the stuff stuff without any problem.  Do need to get a longer pulley bolt though. Probably take one washer out and still clear the bracket. Thanks for all the help guys.
