Nice looking tractor, but it's NOT an RJ....

Looks like a 550 or 551 to me. Probably the latter, but at any rate, definitely a Suburban.

Good luck!

Which to pick up is totally your call, but that cast iron front axle and hood with the embossed lines is definitely Suburban, not RJ. RJs had a square tube steel axle and only the name Wheel Horse emobssed in the hood... (no lines). The motor also looks to be a teccy from the picture which would push it to be either a 550 or 551. I can't tell what the hood stand or tranny look like and don't see a clutch pedal or footrests to tell the difference, maybe someone with better eyes could though.

He prolly doesn't know what he has Wikket. It may be bargaining leverage for you, as mid-engine Suburbans were built in 1960 and 1961. RJs were 1955-1959, so it's age isn't quite as important in the price factor... If it has a "normal" looking Unidrive tranny (just like a newer WH) on it, it's definitely a 1961 model.

Lots of folks associate ANY "nut roasters" (mid-mount engine) as RJs, so I wouldn't sweat it much. He's prolly not intentionally misleading folks.

The deck in my limited knowledge is for a 1960 model making it a 550. The steering wheel I believe is off a early cub due to the curved spokes. :omg: Mike

1961 deck was just like that as well. Should have 4 rollers- 1 at each corner.

the 1960 deck didn't have rollers... just skids. I think the 1961 deck only had two wheels one each on the outside of the front corners.

I didn't pick it up,

The hood was hack for a bigger engine, some funky lift handle, funky foot rest, funky steering wheel, too many custom mods

I did pick up a k341 of a ford, tire chain, etc parts tractor

Thanks for all the input everybody
