bluelinehiway 8 #1 Posted July 4, 2019 I have a 1998 522xi with a Kohler 22hp Model CH22S engine. Engine has over 1000 hours on it and following a leak down test, it appears that it needs ring / rebore work to fix the lack of power under load and oil burning. I have found another Kohler (same family serial number SKH624U1G2RA and same model number CH22S) that came out of a Scag with 250 hours on it. My question...the 522xi runs a driveshaft off the rear of the engine (opposite the "normal" output shaft on the carb side) through the debris screen. Is this output shaft off the crank unique to Wheelhorses or is there a coupler that attaches to the back of the motor that connects to the driveshaft? I haven't torn apart the tractor to get at the engine yet and I'm curious if I can switch out the motor without issues seeing that the new motor only has one output shaft on the engine. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
shallowwatersailor 3,214 #2 Posted July 4, 2019 You should be able to remove the shaft on the fan side from your original engine and install it on the used engine. There may be a few other parts that would need to be exchange like maybe the oil drain line. While you have it out, remove the shrouds and clean the exterior of the engine.
pfrederi 18,690 #3 Posted July 4, 2019 Can't say for sure on that new fangled stuff...but on older Kohler twins (KT and Magnums) many purchasers used dual out put. there was astub shaft that bolted onto the Flywheel to give teh second output.
bluelinehiway 8 #4 Posted July 5, 2019 Thanks for your responses. Got into the tractor today and figured out the output shaft based on both your comments. I appreciate it and thanks.
