KT19 problems. please help.

Hi. I have a problem that I can't figure out and hope for some help on. Finally got a  C195 with 1300 hours KT19. has run it the last almost 100 hours and it ran super nice. Then suddenly started to shake really bad. Primarily in high rews and it gets worse the higher the rews. Seems to follow rpm 100%. Does it at stand still with no implement too. Must be from the engine. Has all the power it used to have so I'm a bit confused. it's not just running on 1 pot. Feels like it is missing a balancing axle or something like that. Carb is clean. gets plenty fuel. electric fuel pump. new filters and oil. plugs and points are fine. good sparks. No banging knocking or other sounds other than usual fine.

Is there a rotating thing inside the engine that can brake and cause this shaking?

thanks

Depending on how bad it is, what springs to mind is if the magnets in the flywheel has come loose and shifted perhaps?  If it really pulls and runs strong at the same time, it kind of rules out ignition and fuel IMO. Perhaps a chunk of debri in the flywheel?

BUT .......If you should come to need a new engine, I just started import of good 25hp, 997cc, v-twin diesels HINT HINT :D:P

I have found Hickory nuts inside the air shrouds of some of mine courtesy of mice and Chipmunks.

I have to say that the first thing that popped into my mind was the fairly common problem with the KT's being one of the rods has come loose. Seems the only thing that would cause that much shaking. Ive had a magnet come loose a couple times and it locked the engine.

That was also my consern but I can't wrap my head around it being a loose rod, as it purrs along nicely. No noices banging ratteling or anything else. Could this really be a loose rod with only symptoms being shaking.?

compare it to something like your deck loosing a good chunk of one side of a blade. If I place a cup of water half full on the hood, it will dance and splash water out the top.

Pull the flywheel and inspect. If nothing there, then it looks like you already have a good idea where to look next. Fingers crossed :-)

Easiest way to initial check for loose rod is to remove the plugs, run the piston half way down, and feel with a long stick or similar, if it follows the rotation of the flywheel 100%. Both cylinders should follow and feel 100% the same. If one has even the slightest play/slag in relation to the crank, you know what to do next.

I dont get why I couldent hear anything wrong. Did as Skipper said, and found a good deal of play somewhere on one of the cylinders. The other one was solid.

Got the engine off the tractor. Took about an hour. Not so bad as I thought it would be.

What would be the easiest way to fix it?

Should I tear it all the way down when I'm at it Just to check the condition overall?

Thanks for all the help so far!

You have to determine just what happened, and that means at least removing the pan. and repair will depend on the problem - easiest/best is the rod just broke and the crank/piston is OK (probably the least likely!) If the rod detonated more than likely the crank is boogered, possible even to the point of not repairable, also the piston may have detonated and scored the cylinder walls -- Youre just gonna have to see the damage. Hopefully the crank can be turned and the cyl walls are alright, if so you machine the crank, new rod/piston/rings (if cyl OK)

Thanks Pacer, but I dont think it has handgrenaded. just gotten loose. It still runs fine, just shakes a lot, so I was hoping I could just tighten the rod in place again?

Absolutely download the service manual before you proceed.  There are two types of rods used.  Posi lock are not retorqueable.  Torquing for them and other rod are completely different. I would use new nuts no matter what Type rod I had.

This is a KT 19.  There is no pan you have to split the case.  This is a fairly large project.

and expensive. basic kit would be 100$ and then some. Just gaskets and rings. If it needs a rod too, and who knows what more of obsolete things, then I don't think it's worth it. Skippers suggestion of a diesel repower will be looked into.

I will tear it down, and hopefully it aint too toast.
