Kohler repower

Recommended Posts

I can't remember what is needed to swap, so why I'm asking!! Guess getting old makes things harder to remember.....But I have a 606 with a Briggs 8 horse. It's tired, works great for bug and mosquito control. I want to put a Kohler in it, but want at least a 10 horse. I know the 1045,1055, 1075 and the 1046 had the 10 horse with the small pan and smaller flywheel and tins, but would a small oil pan be enough to fit under the hood? I dont' want starter generator style, like to have regular electric start, or even better a recoil. Last I checked there where some small oul pans on evilbay, but dont' think I saw any of the other stuff. If I'm gonna swap motors, I'd like to get big as I can with a 16 horse....

Thinking just need the short oil pan, raise hood or message the hood on the sides to get it to clear...now to find one

I have an 856 and a 1267 sitting side-by-side. If you'd like I can take some measurements. I know the hood on the 1267 sits more than an inch higher.

I'm considering putting the 12 engine into the 856. My thought was to use Square stock steel as spacers between the steering wheel Tower and the frame, also the hood hinges.

I'm thinking I would also have to use a longer steering column such as one from a b or c series because I don't have the one from the 1267.

After the reading I’ve been doing, once the short oil pan is on, still have to lift hood some but how much dunno. Might be able to “bulge” the hood on either side to clear the housing.

Big base kohler blocks will fit short frame tractors with the correct shallow oil pan with no modification of the hood.  You'll have to fill the bump on the front and rear of the block with something (jb weld, RTV?).

857 frame/hood/stand with a k341 big base block.

Ur build is where is saw the short pan n raised hood. How much did you raise hood/tower? Also what pan did you use? Finding the 1045/55/75 pan is gonna be tough, but I know cubs used it as well.

Me?  I didn't raise the hood or dash tower at all.

Pans are all over ebay, for 30-40$.  Search for k241 oil pan and there are 15ish of them right now.

Even better!!!! Didn't really want to alter anything lol. I saw a bunch those pans on evilbay, but wasn't sure if there was a specific one or not. I found some local I think for $20. Maybe I'll grab a couple for future builds lol...
