Pullstart 66,843 #1 Posted June 28, 2019 I picked up three sets of points today. Barney Fife and Putt Putt need some, plus I figured a spare for the shelf might be a wise idea. They all have some dielectric grease and this little felt looking pad. Does anyone know the purpose of these extras?
lynnmor 7,828 #2 Posted June 29, 2019 The grease is for lubricating the area where the points are pushed open. You pull the paper thru the closed contacts to clean them. 2
953 nut 60,086 #3 Posted June 29, 2019 They probably pack them with all points they sell. When the points in a distributor are replaced the lubrication is used on the lobes of the distributor cam. Kohler doesn't provide them with their points. 1
squonk 43,843 #4 Posted June 29, 2019 Paper is used to clean off oxidation on the contact surface. Put a dab of that grease on the pushrod contact area and over the screw for the wire.
