Today's haul

Well picked this up today for parts for the bomb c 161 auto. Couple questions, looks to be a 14hp 1 year only 73? Auto. Smokes like an 80 year old railroad worker, throws perfect rings and all. Trans doesn't make a sound and is STRONG. Are these rare enough to save? A guy at my shop wants to buy it for a mule to move cars with. 2nd the mid mount cultivator which is why i bought all of it, may be home made? No tag, never saw one. Notice it has reversible spoon and rip teeth. Deck has couple holes will pass it on.

Not sure about the year. I picked up 

what l believe is a 72 no name with a

k181 on it. It is a 3 speed with reverse.

It definitely a long frame. I ended up 

using parts off it to put on my 1067. 

Yours looks like a pretty decent tractor

I have a 73 Automatic 10 that is all original. I like it because it's different, but if I was using it on a regular basis I would have to change the motion control lever to the console style. I dislike this setup more than the column motion lever on the newer 3,4,500 series-it just feels awkward, probably why they only made it one year. That 14 looks pretty good, I would have a hard time taking parts of it.

73 was the only year that was made. 

 

I'm with Chip. Far too good of a tractor to take apart. Engines are easy to come by and are easy to rebuild if you didn't want to source another. It's every bit as nice (or nicer) than any of my tractors.

Ya and it came with the complete sleeve hitch assembly. Have to do some pondering.

Thanks for the input. It's hand lift and I don't have hand lift anymore. That's why thought about parts/resell. Can sell it smoking for within $50 of what i gave for all of it, and he doesn't care what parts I take off, as long as it can be a mule.

This 701 will be alive next. I just finished a Suburban 550, resurrected from the dead.  Keep yours together, repair or replace the engine, you'll be glad you did.

@WHEELHORSEFAN*16  is that a newer recoil retrofitted to that engine. Can you share any details?

It is a different engine, off of a mtd snowblower.   The engine is a 2006, the resemblance to the original engine is close.  I used some of the original engine parts on this engine. Turned out pretty cool.  The original engine had broken rings and a chipped piston from being thrown around over the years in a box. Thats how I recieved it, a basketcase. I knew I had a good home and better purpose for the newer engine. So there it is !

Im not a Tecumseh fan, but when they run good, its hard to not use the powerplant.

Gold: I would say that it looks all there just needs some tlc. How is the oil? clean or black if black but some cheap oil and change it a few times. I have had plenty of smokers I use some motor honey to help out with the smoking.

I'd be interested to see more details of that.

 

I have that snow blower, and I'm trying to decide what to do with it since I got a plow now, and I will be looking for a smaller WH for my boy next year.

Ya I'm the biggest saver of old tractors I know in these parts. Save and get them working again, not save them and let them sit around and rot In the ground. We have a lot of those around here.😣 The hand lift is the big negative for me. Put my brinly back blade on it and could barely lift it with 2 hands. Unacceptable.  Found an engine out of a gravely 812, but can't find out if crank is right size. The good news is this one doesn't throw belts!!!!!

Yeah Gravely is a beast all its own. I never did like their cone/clutch setup. Never heard anything bad about them other than making sure the clutches are adjusted on a regular basis. Ill stick with the Horses.

Yes didn't pickup the engine cause cant find out if crank is compatible
