ClassicTractorProfessor 5,371 #1 Posted June 23, 2019 Dug the little Commando V8 out of storage today, was planning on getting her running and having a welder buddy of mine help me build a better mount for my sprayer and doing some spraying around the shop. As I was unloading it the bowl just fell off the carb, went to put it back on and that’s when I noticed the threads in the carb body are stripped. All my parts sources say this carb is NLA, so now I’m faced with a dilemma. Do I search hi and low for a used carb for the VH80, or do I break down and do a repower with something a bit easier to find parts for. I’ve got a friend whose trying to sell me an old Dixon with a 17HP Briggs on it, may just buy it for the engine to use on this tractor Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

ZXT 2,401 #3 Posted June 23, 2019 I'd use that as a good excuse to get the Tecumseh off of it. Repower it with a Briggs. You'll be able to find parts cheap and it wont put a window in the block like Tecumsehs like to do. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
ClassicTractorProfessor 5,371 #4 Posted June 23, 2019 That’s kinda the route I’m leaning towards the more I think about it...I never have been a fan of Tecumseh engines, probably wouldn’t have bought this one due to the engine, but was browsing the classifieds here one day and my ex wife saw that it was only a couple hours away, and she fell in love with the little turd, so here it sits. It does have its place though, I can mount my sprayer on it and leave it attaches without tying up one of the others, and the 2” ball on the back is super handy for moving trailers around the yard here at the shop. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

I like my Kohlers, but it's hard to kill a Briggs. They'll run until they don't have enough compression to fire.. I've seen far more blown up Tecumseh and Kohler engines than I have Briggs engines for sure. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
chip61 666 #9 Posted June 24, 2019 I had one of those I/C Briggs engines on a 1996 throw away Murray. It changed hands in my family 5 or 6 times before I gave it to a friend of mine a couple years ago.
