jeepcreepcj 0 #1 Posted April 8, 2009 Hi, I am going to change the transaxle oil/gearlube in my 1054 and was wondering what it takes. I wasn't sure if these take atf or gearlube or what weight gearlube. If anyone knows how much it holds that would be great too. This is the only picture I have of my tractor, might repaint it this summer if I get around too it. Thanks for any help./Users/TShoes/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Originals/2008/Jun 5, 2008/DSCN0904.JPG
HorseFixer 2,013 #2 Posted April 8, 2009 Wheel Horse Lubrication Guide Says 90/140 Gear Lube Looks for Lubrication With A GL-5 Rating. I personally Use Synthetic Gear Lube. 75/140 :omg:

Docwheelhorse 2,740 #4 Posted April 8, 2009 If you are going to use the tractor in the colder temperatures put in 80/90..... 90/140 is too heavy in the winter. I have no clue why Wheel Horse would specify such a heavy oil unless thats all that was available in the 60's. Tony
Rollerman 290 #5 Posted April 8, 2009 I have no clue why Wheel Horse would specify such a heavy oil unless thats all that was available in the 60's. Possibly because those spider gear diffs need all the cushion they can get....
iicap 1 #6 Posted April 8, 2009 I would go with Duke and Wheel Horse as he is talking about multi viscosity gear lubes. I like to try and use more descriptive designation such as 75W-140 or 80W-90 so we know that it is a multi viscosity being recommended or single weight like SAE-90 or SAE-140. The GL rating is very important and should be mentioned if it is specified. They have different additve packages to them to address different types of gearing in cases. Duke please correct anything I've said that may be misleading, thanks
