K482/K532 rear oil seal leak?

Recommended Posts

I have a small oil leak on a D180 with a K532.  I say small leak because if I clean it up, it will take about a day for me to actually see/feel the oil on the engine housing below the PTO and that is if I do not run it.  Doesn't seem to leak any faster if I start and run it either, although, I rarely run it more than 5 or 10 minutes because I am cleaning it up.  No idea what the history of the tractor is other than it looks like someone maybe put a K532 on it.  I can see the K532 stamp on top of the block and it has an oil filter.  However, the PO said it was a D180, tags are all gone.

I put dye in the oil and the oil appears to be coming out at the bottom and right in the middle of where the PTO comes out of the engine.

I looked at the D180 parts diagram and the Kohler K482/K532 parts diagram - page 30.  I can see the rear closure plate and the oil seal.

Is there a gasket on the rear closure plate? Is that leaking or is it the seal?

Is it a big deal to replace the seal?  Is it taking the PTO pulley off and replacing the seal and/or rear closure gasket?

Thanks.
