Kohler k301s runs for 20 minutes then shuts down.

It will run fine and I can get half of my garden tilled and it just shuts down. I just put on a new fuel pump and cleaned the carb.

Put a spark tester on it, run it and watch the tester. When it shuts down, verify if youve lost spark, if not then it would be a fuel related issue. Ive seen leaves, pine needles and even a petrified spider plug up the fuel outlet on the tank.

I had a 301 that would shut down after running a while. Turned out the head was full of grass clippings under the shroud. Just a thought

If the vent in your fuel cap is plugged up the fuel being used will develop a vacuum in the tank that the fuel pump can't overcome.  Try running it with the cap backed off a half turn. If that is it you need a new fuel cap.

All clean under there I'm thinking it's something to do with fuel ive ran it with the hood off thinking it might be overheating but it still does the same thing.

Does it start right back up afterwards? Does choking it make any difference?

 

When a coil is breaking down, it will work fine cold, die out when it gets hot, and then start working again once it cools down. Easiest thing to do would be to check for spark with a tester, or if you don't have a tester, either pull the plug or put a known good plug on the spark plug wire and ground the base and see if you have spark. If you don't, bad coil. If you do, the gas cap probably isn't venting. Loosen it and see if it helps matters any.
