Help, with year & value

I have located a Wheel Horse 314A, with a 14 HP Kohler K321S model engine, with a spec number of 60424, which I am interested in as a mower for my daughter. 

 

Tractor, front mule drive & 42 inch rear discharge mowing deck.  Nothing else.  

 

Can anyone help me with the approximate model year & value.  (I am thinking $400 - 600 for total value, but I would like the experts opinion.)

 

Any assistance will be most appreciated.

I'm going to guess it is a 1985.  Check out our manuals section for some information.  No way we can give out a value without pictures.

Hard to put a price on something without seeing it. If it was clean and showed evidence of good regular maintenance I might bite at the price you suggest. I like the ones that need a little fixing though 

I do think the "A" transmission is the lighter duty transmission

Are you sure it is a 314A?    I can only find 314H and 314-8.

The seller has one photograph which clearly shows 314-A.  He says his grandfather purchased the tractor & kept it inside except during use.  It appears to be smooth & clean, from the photographs.  One photo of the hour meter shows 1,339.7 hours, and hopefully it is working but that number seems very low if it is correct.  The owner said his grandfather mowed his grass three time per week, and our mowing season begins in April (if not earlier) & ends in October or November, so 40 hours use each years seems on the low side to me.  But the yard may have been very small.    

 

I did look through some of the manuals trying to get an idea of the years model.  I don't know when Wheel Horse made the transition from the old Kohler Cast Iron engines to the newer Magnum ones, but that would also approximated the model year.  I don't want to steal the tractor, but at the same time, I don't want to pay double the actual value for sentimental purposes either.  I also realize the value varies depending on quantity available, condition & many other factors.  There are several Wheel Horses tractors around here, but they do not change hands very often, so that is in the sellers favor.  

 

gwest_ca-(File Mod) that 1985, showing K321S, 60424 pretty much nailed it.  I appreciate that immensely both stevasaurus (Moderator) & gwest_ca-(File Mod) for your assistance.  Overall, I would say the photographs portray a 34/35 year old tractor better looking than most its age.  I am 2.5 hours away from the tractors location, but may go chew-the-fat, with the owner Friday, if he will be available.  (I have commitments taking the entire morning Thursday.) Depending on how the Tractor sounds idling, under a load, shifts & performs all normal functions, I will know more if I am interested than by just reviewing the posted photographs.  But thanks everyone for your comments.
