71_Bronco 1,072 #1 Posted June 5, 2019 Was just thinking the other day about my worker Commando 8. When I was picking up some new belts for my deck, I ended up with 2 sets. I haven't replaced the drive belt yet, but I haven't seen a need to (doesn't slip, no signs of issues). I was thinking about picking up a spare to have on hand, and that got me thinking. Do you guys "stock" spare belts for your tractors? At least the ones you need to use all the time?
The Tuul Crib 7,338 #2 Posted June 5, 2019 Yes and its not a bad idea! When you’re out mowing the yard and a belt breaks it’s good to have one on reserve !
ZXT 2,401 #3 Posted June 5, 2019 I usually try to replace my belts before they fail, and then hang the old one on the shelf for measurement reference and as a backup in case I have one break.
WHX?? 51,060 #4 Posted June 5, 2019 I'm with ZXT on this one but since I live a bit of distance to a decent hardware store or TSC I have been known to stock them.

A lot of us Wheel Horse owner stock spare tractors with decks and belts ready to go if needed. This is the first year that I have had two Wheel Horses ready to mow. I also have a third Wheel Horse and deck that just needs a mule drive to complete the unit. Yes stocking spare parts is a good idea. The Wheel Horse way around here is "A Tractor for each piece of Equipment". Edited June 5, 2019 by Lee1977
Pollack Pete 2,273 #6 Posted June 6, 2019 Got all kinds of spare belts here.Having multiple tractors,it's a good idea is to write on the cardboard sleeve with a marker which tractor they go on and where the belt is used.Or,if no sleeve,a little tag on a string tied around the new belt.Makes it easer when you're looking in the pile of new belts to find the one you need.Just my 2 cents worth. formariz 11,995 #7 Posted June 6, 2019 Yes I stock spare belts for every tractor that is used regularly in servicing property. Along with that I also stock essential ignition parts and a clean spare carburetor for each.
Dakota8338 115 #8 Posted June 6, 2019 I also stock spare belts for all the WH equipment powered with belts.
Stepney 2,351 #9 Posted June 6, 2019 I got lucky and fell into a 1966 1076. It came with a literal crate full of NOS 60-70's era WH belts. 3 or 4 spares each for the blower, deck, spindles, and drive, as well as 2 for the generator. Otherwise, I used to use my WH's commercially, so I always kept spares anyway.
