43 walk behind rear tine tiller

Recommended Posts

I have a 1943 roto tiller that runs and drives great, however I can not get the tines to engage. Any ideas or suggestions for a repair? Is this a common problem? I really love my old wheel horse and don't want to make a yard ornament out of it. Any information will be much appreciated.

If you can post some detailed pictures of that set up, maybe more people can help and or offer some suggestions. Something like that is going to have very a limited amount of members with experience on that exact piece of equipment. Plus I'm interested in seeing some pics of it too!

Not a Wheel Horse, but that is OK.   The older rear-tine tillers used a worm gear to drive the tines and they were pron to wear-out the brass gear. Take a look at this information.

I will post pictures later today and hope that someone is able to offer some advice on how to make it work. I've been told that splitting the case at the location of the tine engaging location is a nightmare to deal with and even worse to get back together. I have never been afraid of a challenge but I don't want to go beyond saving it for lack of knowledge.
