diesel life 42 #1 Posted May 30, 2019 (edited) Ok guys long story short, got a 520h with a 60" deck for free from my dad. 60" deck is way too much for my yard so i bought a 42" sd deck off the mower guy my nieghbor. 42 is off a 1982 c-125.Totally sanded down the 42 and painted all new hardware to go along with. I get the deck mounted and when i lift it with the electronic lift the back wheels never come off the ground. What am i missing here??? Basically all it doea is lift the front of the deck. Havent tried mowing yet cause im affraid im just gonna scalp the yard. Any help is appreciated. Thanks Edited May 30, 2019 by diesel life

diesel life 42 #4 Posted May 30, 2019 (edited) No i have it on there. I think i may have the electric lift in the wrong slot, there is a slot and then behind it there is a hole i put the electric lift in the hole instead of the slide would that make a diffeerence?? dalez 139 #5 Posted May 30, 2019 Might be those back tire issues. I believe the 42" deck wheels hit the tractor tires, maybe that is what is preventing it from rising in the back.
diesel life 42 #6 Posted May 30, 2019 I thought about that too, it has the tractor treads on the back and i have about a 1/2" of clearance. I thought about putting longer shoulder bolts in the rear deck wheels with a spacer or washers to get them out further
953 nut 60,224 #7 Posted May 30, 2019 Take a look at Figure 5 of the owner manual, there is a small fork that must be aligned with the cross shaft so the mower will lift at the rear. This is easy to overlook while mounting the deck.

Ed Kennell 42,108 #9 Posted May 30, 2019 The threaded rod on the rear should be adjusted to set the front of the deck 1/8" lower than the rear when the deck is lowered to the mowing height. As Richard stated, the fork must be engaged on the rod of the mid mount. The lift lever should be in the slot. The two shoulder bolts on the front of the carriage can be raised in the slot to cause the rear of the deck to be lifted. I assume he meant hydraulic lift Jim. 1
Lee1977 7,221 #10 Posted May 30, 2019 (edited) I had the same problem. I think the lift link is not adjusted right. I did notice that the older decks have a short slot with a hole behind. The newer deck 1986 has a long slot. I changed to a later model deck on my 520. Too short on the lift link will brake the lift bar under the tractor as it was broken when I got the 520. I got it adjusted right with the later model deck. It may have worked with the older deck, but I lucked out with a free 1986 48" deck so I used it. diesel life 42 #11 Posted May 31, 2019 Ok thanks guys i will have to look on my days off later this week. I didnt know there was another link under there that needed hooked up. And yes sorry i meant hydraulic lift. I will let you know what i find.
diesel life 42 #12 Posted June 6, 2019 Ok guys i got the deck back on i had it mounted in the hole behind the slot instead of the slot. Now the whole deck goes up and down with the lift, the only problems i have is the rear deck wheels hit the tractor tread tires on the left side, so i got longer shoulder bolts and put on but the left wasnt long enough still rubs. So i was thinking maybe pull the wheel bar off and take it to my uncles welding shop and widen the wheel bar what are your thoughts??? Also the mower doesnt have much power when the deck is turned on or doesnt seem to??.
lynnmor 7,845 #13 Posted June 6, 2019 A 42” side discharge deck does not fit a 520H, you are on your own designing a way to make it work. Maybe the PTO is slipping causing the power issue.
diesel life 42 #14 Posted June 6, 2019 You can make anything fit with a little research and development. And the will to make it work... 19 minutes ago, lynnmor said: A 42” side discharge deck does not fit a 520H, you are on your own designing a way to make it work.
