Am I searching incorrectly?

I'm trying to find either the owner manual for the 1977 c-160 or the Kohler engine manual. but the results I'm getting are not correct.    I now have spark while cranking, and have cleaned the daylights out of the carb. but something is still wrong.  I can't get it to start with out a squirt of ether.    I would love to find the manual so I can verify .20k for the points gap,11/64 for the float height and which of the screws is the idle mixture vs. the high speed mixture.  Based on the layout, the upper screw should be the idle mixture screw.  it's behind the throttle blade, but even google is failing me today.   Pound head against wall.

Hey there, and :text-welcomeconfetti:!

Are you saying that once you give it a shot of ether, it'll start and run continuously or it'll only run for a second? It's not uncommon to have to choke the engine for a second when starting, due to the design of the carburetor.

If it won't stay running after the initial shot of ether, are you sure that you're getting fuel to the carb? If you aren't sure, check to see if the fuel pump is pumping fuel with the fuel hose disconnected from the carb. If it isn't, you probably have either a faulty fuel pump, a clog in the line leading to the pump somewhere, or the fuel is shut off (just being funny with that suggestion!).

If you are getting fuel, is the bowl filling up? If you have a clean carb and have each of the screws backed out a few turns, you should at least be able to get the thing to start.

I usually do a baseline of around 2.5 turns out on both of the screws, and adjust them gradually until I feel the engine is running best.

If you're having trouble finding data on your engine, broaden your search by just searching for a Kohler K321 or K341. Both use the same carburetor (regardless of brand, model, or application) and you might find better results.

Points setting should be .020. Not .20
