71_Bronco 1,072 #1 Posted May 28, 2019 What kind of options do I have for my 1968 Commando 8 as far as a mower deck? I'd like to stay at least 36" wide. Right now, I have a 5-2362, which is a gear-drive, 36" deck. The spindles, brackets, etc are all good, but the shell needs some help. With this tractor, am I limited as far as deck options? Would it be possible to convert this to an attach-o-matic style deck? Or would that not work well due to the short frame? I'd rather keep it with the gear-drive deck, as I think it's very cool and correct to the tractor, but parts and decks are not as common as the later style. Ed Kennell 42,108 #2 Posted May 28, 2019 I'm afraid you are stuck with the gear drive decks. If you did find a 3 blade deck that would fit between the wheels, you would need a front mount attach-a-matic, a mule drive, and a working PTO.
The Tuul Crib 7,339 #3 Posted May 29, 2019 (edited) I have a 1067 that has a bracket on it that allowed me to use a newer deck. The only problem that l ran into was the muffler being in the way . Im not sure where to find these but a good welder can probably fab you a set if you have a long frame. Edited May 29, 2019 by The Tool Crib
71_Bronco 1,072 #4 Posted May 29, 2019 I have a bolt on attach-a-matic that came with my 71 Bronco (pre attach-a-matic), so fabricating a second set wouldn't be very hard. Plus, i have seen them for sale a few times. I have both the front mount, as well as the mid-frame set. The problem I have is that the Commando 8 is a short frame, and I don't know how a newer style deck will fit. On the Bronco 14, that has a long frame, so you have more room for a mid-mount deck.
