Compression Reading on K181s

Recommended Posts

I was thinking of taking a compression reading on my B80.  What should the reading be for a K181S?

I don't know if you can get a good reading on the "K" series Kohlers.  They have a gift called ACR or Automatic compression release.  It keeps the exhaust valve open slightly while cranking the engine or when pulling the rope.  Makes cranking or pulling easier.  Once the engine is going the ACR lets the valve close all the way.  Here are a few pictures of the mechanism on the cam shaft.  This is "K" 181.

The screwdriver is resting on what would hold the valve partieally open.

Ya can't use a compression test.

Do a Google search for leakdown tester

That'll tell you.
