pfrederi 18,703 #2 Posted May 27, 2019 You always want the front of the deck to be slightly lower than the rear. In your described set up the mower is working twice as hard cutting first in the front then again on the rear. Also makes a for a poor quality of cut. You might try bigger wheels on the deck then adjust it so the blade tip in the front is about 1/8" lower than in the back.
daveoman1966 3,841 #3 Posted May 27, 2019 Standard wheel are 6" diameter. I have a pair that are 8" dia, which would raise the rear of the deck by 1". That MAY solve your problem. These wheels come with shoulder bolt and TWO replaceable ball bearings in each one.. $22 plus 8 to ship to you in USA.
Larry Chamberlain 22 #4 Posted May 27, 2019 I have a single drum wheel in the front middle of the mower
pfrederi 18,703 #5 Posted May 27, 2019 You need to replace the two rear wheels with larger ones not the front roller.
Larry Chamberlain 22 #6 Posted May 28, 2019 If I replace the rear ones I'll be in the same boat with the mower deck doing a endo think I'm gonna replace my front tires with taller ones
oliver2-44 10,739 #7 Posted May 28, 2019 My 312-8 has a 42" SD deck and I use 7" tires on the rear of the deck. it give me another 1/2" height adjustment.
cleat 7,263 #8 Posted May 28, 2019 You need to level your deck. Front wheels should not touch the ground, they are just there for anti-scalp.
953 nut 60,224 #9 Posted May 28, 2019 Look through these listings and find you deck, open the manual and follow the height adjustment procedure and you will be fine. https://www.wheelhorseforum.com/files/category/18-mower-decks-reel/
clueless 3,258 #10 Posted May 28, 2019 Per an old WH dealer, the WH's decks are not deep decks, 3 1/2 to 3 3/4 inches is the highest they were designed for. You may get 4 inches with some taller gauge wheel, but anything above 3 1/5 inches you start to loss lift, air flow, and grass discharge, it will cut but not as good. The best advice he ever gave me was before you make any changes to you deck make sure it's installed and adjusted properly as per the owners manual first, with no more than 1/4 inch drop in the front, and after you make your changes adjust it again. He also said that implement adjustment knob on the left hand console is not for your deck.
cleat 7,263 #11 Posted May 28, 2019 Before even checking deck level be sure all 4 tires are at 12 PSI A soft tire or 2 will also cause a lower cut.
