c-160 only runs when jumper cables are hooked up.

the battery on my c-160 is shot so i jump started it. even when i disconnect the termianals from the battery and take the cables off it dies

is it just i need a new battery or is it somthing else, i thought ounce it got running the battery didn't do anything besides get charged.

No they will not run without a decent battery because the voltage regulator needs battery voltage to turn it on so to speak before it can regulate charge current.

Later on some tractors had a decal warning against running the engine without a battery.
