daveys82 1 #1 Posted May 13, 2019 I have a C-161 Automatic, hydro with, dump wagon, garden plow, and snow plow. grandfather left it to me when he passed. he bought it brand new I used it about 4 or 5 years until I had fuel problems. had to shoot a lil starting fluid in carb to get running. then it sat for a few years. I pushed it in the garage the other day to mess with it. a lot of things were rusted and seized up. after a few days got most everything freed up. only way I could get it to turn over was to jump the starter. sprayed a lil fluid in carb and sound like it was going to fire up, but didn't. did pull the plug and what I thought was the piston was moving up and down. I don't really know much about these things. would really like to get it going again, but not sure how or what it would cost in the long run. maybe if I could do it myself I would, but don't have a lot of time or money and shops around here want $100 an hour and the only true wheel horse company here closed down a couple years ago, so not sure where to find parts or if anything will interchange. also thought about putting everything up for sale. guess I am just looking for advice on what to do. any suggestions ? thanks. JAinVA 4,636 #2 Posted May 13, 2019 (edited) I hate to say this but a lot of us here have the tools, time, space and experience to deal with these machines and still have difficulty getting them running. For the reasons you state a lot of people don't want to buy a 25/30 year old garden tractor. If you can't work on them yourself it can be expensive to have someone else do the work. With patience there are enough folks here willing to help you but to be honest it could take some time to work the bugs out of your C-161. You alone will have to decide if you want to commit the time, effort and money to getting the machine up and running. Edited May 13, 2019 by JAinVA
oliver2-44 10,688 #3 Posted May 13, 2019 The C-161 auto is a great tractor. The C-160,161 and 165 are one of the most sought after tractors to use as a worker. As said above it can take time to get the bugs out. There is lots of friendly help available here to walk you through learning how to get it going. Considering the ties the tractor has to you grandfather I hope you decide to get it going. PS what you saw moving up and down were the engine valves, and that's a good thing. There is a small cost of all this great help is ........ 1
