blake616 4 #1 Posted May 5, 2019 Just bought a 96 520H (my 3rd) . The oil drain nipple that is screwed into the block is loose and leaking. I know that I need to take the elbow and the other 4" pipe off to tighten... but my question is.. what is the trick to get a wrench in there to tighten... without having to unbolt the engine? Thanks.....
ericj 1,579 #2 Posted May 5, 2019 I just had to do the repair on 2 onan powered machines. The 520 I tried to not unbolt the motor and just loosened the bolts enough to lift the motor up and spin the pipe with 90 ell out and put pipe dope on and reinstall. Turned into a real PIA. The 416-8 I did next I unbolted the motor and slid it around without unhooking anything else. It went much easier and faster. So I highly recommend unbolting the motor and spin it in place to do the repair. good luck eric j
Lee1977 7,215 #3 Posted May 5, 2019 I would say you will have to unbolt the engine. I don't think you can turn the elbow a full 360 degrees it needs to be removed a use pipe tape or pipe dope to fix your leak.
