Retired Wrencher 5,847 #1 Posted May 3, 2019 Here is a few picks of what I found today. The shot with the oil drain was leaking very bad I know bad shot. So I have what they call Seal All. Resists gas and oil. So far no leaks. It never surprises me how things happen to these fine tractors. Not sure about the tranny with the shaft sticking out? I have never seen this. Any info is welcome. 2
Sparky-(Admin) 23,325 #2 Posted May 3, 2019 Loosen the hub set-screws and move those hubs out to be flush with the end of the axle. All ya need is a 9/16 closed wrench and a 3/8 open end wrench 2
Achto 29,433 #3 Posted May 3, 2019 Your hubs are most likely loose, this would be why they slid in. If it continues to happen, add a second set screw 90degrees to the original one. Looks pretty good in the rest of the shots.

I guess I can use it as a summer tractor only. Or light plowing. Or find some heat to move them back on the Key way.
JAinVA 4,638 #5 Posted May 3, 2019 (edited) If I understand correctly the keyway in the hub is not aligned to the key in the shaft. That key is a lot longer than the axle length sticking out.I would guess that the hub sheared off the remnant of the key and welded it self to the shaft.I'm glad I don't have to deal with it! ebinmaine 73,037 #6 Posted May 4, 2019 Looks like at least one of the hubs is still in the correct place. As stated above, both are too far in. If they don't move because they're rusted in place don't worry about using the tractor. It isn't likely they'll come too loose if the tractor isn't abused. I've seen at least one of our tractors that had the hubs in like that when we got it. I remember being under the impression the PO thought it was correct. Thanks Eric but I would like to get the right one off it has a bad seal. I have some Map gas and maybe look into getting a puller for this.

This is a tough picture to see but here's how we pull hubs. Old hub on the outside of the screw and center section of a large 3 jaw puller.

It been awhile since I used this but I think it will work. The left one will take a while but that is the game.
ebinmaine 73,037 #10 Posted May 4, 2019 Niiiice. Just remember that the cast hubs can be brittle..... Lots of heat. Penetrating oil. Patience. You'll win.

ohiofarmer 3,380 #12 Posted May 4, 2019 If you do not have an old hub, a Chevy 16 inch brake caliper is very close to the correct drilling. Enlarge the holes a bit so the holes will align and use washers under the bolts if needed. Just a bit of engineering we use way out in the boonies to save a trip to town. When I was working on wheel derusting and repainting, i mounted old brake drums to the tractors so i could move them around the shop. I once made a Honda Rear wheel holder out of an old brake caliper to get by when one got lost Five minutes with a mini grinder and it works great
