tplace 5 #1 Posted May 3, 2019 (edited) I have an opportunity to buy a 312-8 with approximately 875 hours on it for $900. It has the Kohler magnum engine. The machine appears to be in very good shape, does that seem like a reasonable price? Is there anything I should look for? I'm new to these tractors. Thanks! 953 nut 60,405 #2 Posted May 3, 2019 If it runs well, cuts good and drives nicely there should be several decades of dependable mowing left. Ask about service records, look at the oil on the dip sticks, engine and transmission. To me the price may be on the high side, but not at all unreasonable. the 312-8 will last a lot longer than a $ 900.00 Big Box store mower.

I've always heard great things about these machines.
Pullstart 67,097 #4 Posted May 3, 2019 A 12 hp 8 speed can do about anything you need from a tractor perspective. I don’t have anything tha5 new and can’t add much on value, but to !,!
AndyK149 62 #5 Posted May 3, 2019 I think the price is a little high, but like others have said, it's better thank what you can buy new. I have the same tractor in PA that I'd sell you for $600. But if you read my other thread, I can't get it started after I cleaned the carb... They are good tractors.
shallowwatersailor 3,214 #6 Posted May 3, 2019 Looks clean but the hours would have the price a bit under that price. It looks like a 48" side discharge deck. The 42" side discharge had a reputation of uneven cutting if the operator stepped on the deck to mount/dismount. It would "bend."
Lee1977 7,232 #7 Posted May 4, 2019 That's a 42" deck a 48" deck would have the deck height adjuster on the left side. It's a little high, but if every thing works and looks to be in good shape it's worth it. You can buy cheaper tractors, but if you have to start replacing parts you can have more than that in one. The Tuul Crib 7,339 #8 Posted May 4, 2019 Looks to be in great shape! Price has alot to do with location . Run it drive it through the gears listen for any noises out of the ordinary. Price is always negotiable, Good luck and to
tplace 5 #9 Posted May 4, 2019 Thanks everybody! I actually pulled the trigger on another tractor that he had for sale, a 12.5 hp 312-8. Turns out he is also a fourm member here. Good guy!
