1990Onan520-H 15 #1 Posted April 22, 2019 Debating buying an engine from them for my 90' 520-H but never heard of them before and dont want any problems. I was going to buy another 520 with lower hours than my current 845 hour machine, but got to thinking why not just put a brand new engine on the one I already have? I don't generally see much fail on these things other than the engines from what I have read and seen myself. Overall my 90 is a 7 out of 10, not perfect but not bad either. A great working example I plan to use for mowing and snow blowing, as well as some grunt work around the yard. Currently the original engine vented the block via the rear cylinder connecting rod. Any input or thoughts on these guys or even what I am considering doing? https://shop.kustomlawnandgarden.com/ONAN-ENGINES-REMANUFACTURED_c5.htm
peter lena 9,280 #2 Posted April 22, 2019 picked up a rebuild kit , from them for k 301, good results, obviously getting a totally rebuilt engine is completely different . looking at the thoroughness and detail they put in an engine would give you a like new /fresh engine. cost is the issue , or a guess against a used engine for 2/3 of the rebuilt cost. if you want to get your project done soon , go rebuilt, if there is a cost or no time issue , you could start a search. its up to you, pete
WHX?? 51,784 #3 Posted April 22, 2019 Never heard of them but their prices are not way out of line for their Kohler kits. Sounds like they know what they are doing.

People just want way too much for used engines with zero history. I'd rather take the cash and put it toward a brand new engine I can maintain myself for the next 20+ years. I could do the rebuild myself but I have so little time it's probably not worth it. These guys look to have their bases covered but you never know the true quality of work without someone who has used them first hand. We'll see if anyone else posts up that hopefully gave these guys a shot with a rebuild.
formariz 12,045 #5 Posted April 22, 2019 (edited) When I first got my 520 although there is nothing wrong with it , but I also not having any real knowledge or experience with the Onan engine, I researched where to get or rebuild an Onan so I would have sort of peace of mind. With the exception of the Onan I actually have spare engines for every tractor I have, most NOS. Its when I came across them. Basically I never found anyone else that offers a rebuilt engine as they do. They seem very professional in what they do. Considering that you basically get a new engine with a warranty from someone that totally discloses what they do, they are my choice for it. Price wise, considering what you get I don't think they are out of line. There will be a spare here in the near future from them. Their site is well put together and after speaking with them on the phone I'm impressed. They give a 90 day warranty on their rebuilds. They even have you send your intake manifold in so they can reseal it since it's 2 piece. They seem very maticulous.
