Wheel Horse 269H

Recommended Posts

One of the local contractors and a neighbor of mine stopped by tonight to give me an estimate on excavating. He saw my wheelhorse tractors and asked if I was interested in another one. I said sure and after we lasered the area I needed excavated we headed over to his place. He pulled a 269H Toro with a 52" Deck out of his storage conatiner. It's dirty as can be but runs like a top and needs the tie rods and rack & pinion steering replaced as it's heavily damaged. The rest of the tractor is in great condition!! He bought a deere and wants to get rid of this. I know you want pictures but I figure it needs a couple hundred in parts for the steering repair. It has 500 hours on it. How much should I give him for it or how much is it worth? He wants to sell it to me but I really don't need it at the moment but it is a very nice tractor. He's a good guy and I want to be fair about it. Any suggestions would be appreciated as I don't deal in the newer model tractors like this one.

Thanks

I bought a 269H brand new in 1996 with a 38" recycler deck for $4100 and sold it with approx 510 hours on it last year for $1500. The guy who bought it lives down the road and stops by every so often and says its still the best mower with the best cut he has ever had. In my 12 years of owning it the only problem I had was with the steering gear and I replaced it myself for about $70.

I used one a couple times and it did a good job mowing and wasnt to bad plowing snow. The foot control hydro was nice and from what I remember it had a real tight turning radius. They also had a kind of cool electric/hydraulic lift system. At the right price it could be a good buy but I hate pricing anything. Must be why I like auctions. :omg:

I am not 100% sure but I belive that transmissions and parts are very difficult if not impossible to find. I know of two 2xx tractors in the area that are sitting at dealers with blown tranis and no way to repair or replace them. Just a thought when considering pricing. I would lean on the cheap side considering the broken steering etc...
