Fuel Pump/Kohler Magnum 10

Had an issue starting the 310-8 this year. It would start with gasoline squirted into the carb throat and die. Usually after a couple squirts, it would fill the lines and be good to go. (I do this to most of my Wheel Horses that sit over the winter).

Not this year with this tractor.

So I replaced the fuel lines since they were pretty aged, new fuel filter as usual and a new line from the fuel pump to the carb inlet. I left the outlet off the carb and watched for fuel to shoot on the start. Nothing. Even with the lines primed right up to the pump. Nothing!

On a *#its and giggles, I took the pump off and with the lines re-connected, I pumped it by hand until I had gasoline through the lines with good pulses of pressured gasoline out the outlet side. Hooked it back up and it runs fine from idle to WOT.

Maybe the diaphragm was dried out and wasn't getting any vacuum or I had a vapor lock in the system. We'll see if it runs for the year with off and on mowing. I suspect the pump is on it's way out! I'll know straight out when I start it in a few days to mow mid-week.

Anyone ever just do this and get this result? (I didn't expect to get a good result)!

The fuel pump has two check valves that direct the flow and allow the diaphragm to develop pressure. Fuel residue and contaminants will deposit on the seats and reduce the pump's efficiency. For workers I just replace the old pump with an electric pump.
