SB421 yer another potential toy

Recommended Posts

RetroMower

Hey all. I thought everyone was kidding about the addiction wheelhorses can ignite. They fell short in explaining the severity lol. Anywho I found an SB421 i can snag for $200. Described as running and driving perfectly with no attachments. Seems like a good price but I would like to know a little more about this model before I see it on Friday. Any insight is always appreciated :greetings-wavingyellow:

Both Trina and I can vouch for the serious-ity of your infectionalism.

Don't fight it. That is likely to be the worst possible thing to do.

Known cures don't exist but there are treatments.... In the form of a well rounded carefully chosen herd.

She has latched on to the mid sixties square hoods while I have been quite happy with the mid seventies B/C models.

The SB should have a Briggs and Stratton engine in it.

I've long been a fan of them.

Combined with the series of horse.... Could be awesomeostical.

Two things:

1. Buy it.

2. Post pics.

Lol Im not fighting it but trying to think of reasons not to buy it and Ill b darned if i cant think of one:laughing-rofl:. Funny thing is my truck has a rattle up front an the house i just bought could use a few things but they are being put on the back burner for now. I have horses to tend to.

As for the Briggs, I've never had an issue with them. I had a 69 Allis Chalmers B112 that ran like a top. I do get the impression here tho that kohler is the preferred power plant over B&S and onan for any number of reasons. I can only guess its perhaps ease of repair or reliability or parts availability. Ive learned that most things if maintained and not abused will repay with years of service. Trick here is determining 30 years of unknown ownership and care in a span of only a few minutes. I will upload pics if this guy sends me mire than the pitiful image he listed it with

my experience with Kohler tells me that they are a heavier and maybe have more Torque.

Still, both good running brands.

Heres the little darling just waiting to pry two more Benjamins out of my wallet. Looks to be in decent shape. Overspray on the footboards makes me cringe tho

If that thing runs and drives I'd say she's worth 2 bills all day everyday

Overspray can be repaired. Maybe the first thing you do to it.

From my prospective it is a great buy if it is what you need (want) and were looking for. If it is just an inexpensive :wh: that you don't have a strong desire to own then put the money aside toward your dream horse.           :twocents-02cents:

Allow me to divulge my thought process. I love to tinker, repair, restore and customize most any old tool or machine that I will use or just find fascinating OR something other people may want and enjoy. When i happened to see the B & C 100s for sale my immediate thought was one to mow with and one to plow my driveway come winter. I have a good plow and 2 good tractors to use it with but the 2 decks I got weren't all that great. The side discharge is that rotten and flimsy i think i could fly it like a kite if i had some string. The rear discharge is useable but not for long. I ended up buying a newer mower because the grass is getting high lol. My third idea was building a custom unit. Problem is I would much rather cut up a wheelhorse thats bound for the scrap heap, not this SB421 which is in great shape and would be a sin to destroy. Only reason i may end up buying this one is to clean it up and maybe sell it at the big show to someone who cant find or fix one up themselves. Having never been to the big show Im wondering how many folks go there looking for a running WH and how many actually leave with one? Oh decisions decisions :eusa-think:
