I got a hh100 tecky, not my favorite engine but used to be a good runner, my problem  with it is the solid state coil took a dump. Any advice or tips on resurrection this or ideas on alternative measure's would be great!

Sorry I did have to work unexpectedly that weekend we had a guy get fired and  me being the lead guy I have to fill in. Trust me pulling a plow would have been way more fun! Hopefully I will be invited to next year's plow days! I am gonna try to make more shows this year but four kids sometime tie me down. Going to them shows is a blast! I love hanging out with other people that share my hobby!

Jeremi, Give these guys a try. I've always had good luck ordering from them.

For the solid state that is unavailable try overnight  solutions they make a kit that will get you running again.

I do not think they have the one on his HH100, it is a totally different animal. Overnite

Solutions I think it is makes a replacement but is not cheap. Used ones are out there

but they are used and pricey. Have done two of these, one was the windings on the stator

that provides current for the ignition and the other was the top or trigger box.

to answer your question i have had a  old 1969 wheel horse charger 10 with the tecky HH-100 and it has been my favorite for years even being the automatic it runs super fine and this is the one out of the 7 horses that i use the most to do the lawn and other things but yes years back i did have another with the same coil step up and it went bad well i searched and yes found 3 others coils  but they  were not the same as each tecky takes only but one so i ended up selling the horse 'even though most say the coils are the same that is wrong as they go by part numbers on the coil  and each tecky  motor's has it own number as so many others will not work ; i found out the hard way i ended up buying one for my horse though a dealer here in the group ; Daves equipment center in central square new york ;just tell them the numbers on the coil and i am sure they can help you

I will look into them guys, not my favorite engine, so I really don't want to spend a lot of money to fix it. I thought at some point someone posted something on here on how to fix one of these pos things! Lol! If it comes down to a bunch of money I'd rather spend it on a dependable kohler!

The one engine I worked on was going to convert it to point style ignition. Owner did not want he

12 volt coil hanging on there. Bought a side cover and camshaft for the conversion did not do it.

Would have to have changed ignitioin switch and minor wiring.

You can usually restore these coils if you're handy. I've saved a few. I used to run Sears Suburbans. This afternoon when I get home, I'll write up a better post. I've got a copy of the troubleshooting list in the basement. If it's nothing with the stator pulse coil, or wiring, usually it's nothing more than a shorted out diode. It's tedious work, but you can remove the resin insulation and get down to it, solder in a new one. The only thing I've seen that will really kill them is running with a bad plug wire, or the cap coming off the plug. That will blow out the coil winding's, then arc around and cause disaster. And never NEVER check for spark without being sure the plug is grounded.
Shame you weren't closer to Maine. I have one of those engines I'll likely be selling. And a second one that's points fired somewhere I think.

Personally I am not a fan of the aftermarket kits. They do away with the ignition retard for spark timing. They always seem to start hard without that, and never run like they used to.

Did you ever get a chance to do a write up on this? I'd be curious to try to fix mine.
