Stormin 9,985 #1 Posted April 8, 2019 The governor spindle has started to leak on my C-125's K301s engine. Had a look at the parts list but could not see any seal listed. Am I right in assuming there is only a bush? Also does the spindle housing just screw out?
Mudrig150 331 #2 Posted April 8, 2019 The brass bushing just unscrews. The governor arm just slides off the shaft.
wallfish 18,124 #3 Posted April 8, 2019 (edited) The typical cause of that symptom is crankcase pressure. There is not a "seal" for the governor shaft. Check the breather. If it is clogged or installed wrong, that will not allow the pressure to escape the crankcase. Worn or bad rings will create excessive crankcase pressure as well. The oil is being pushed out Edited April 8, 2019 by wallfish 2
Stormin 9,985 #4 Posted April 8, 2019 I've just rebuilt the engine with new rings and a good bore. I'll check the breather.

That may be part of the problem it can take a few hours for the rings to seat completely after an overhaul. Edited April 9, 2019 by pfrederi

It's only done about 4hrs work. Not much time for the rings to bed in. Time will tell. I'll whip the breather off tomorrow and make sure it's clean and on the right way. It's not a serious leak, more of a slight weep. More annoying than anything. I did wonder if I'd over filled it with oil. It was slightly over the mark, but ok now. Stormin 9,985 #8 Posted April 10, 2019 Breather removed, mesh washed, blown dried and nice and clean. Refitted and right way up. C-125 will be on lawn sweeper duty on the green tomorrow, so we'll see if the weep has stopped.
Stormin 9,985 #9 Posted April 25, 2019 Well the leak didn't stop after the breather was cleaned. But after a few more hours running it has now. So it was crankcase pressure getting past the rings until they bedded in.
