K241s adjustments?

Recommended Posts

Finally had time to spend with my recent acquisition and replace some wiring, and a new coil. She must have liked the new parts because she ran pretty well without much fuss for about 30 seconds. :banana-dance:Seemed to load up and stop in a white puff as if running really rich. My question is, what do the two brass carb screws control? Idle and mixture most likely but which is which and i would like a good starting point so it can run a little longer for further tuning. Other question is do i have a head gasket leak? I sure hope not

The new coil? With what you have described I was just wondering if you did not by chance end up with the wrong coil? Some coils require a resistor wire or a resistor ( this is usually written on the coil some place ), if you ended up with one of these it will cause the issue that you described.

It does look like you head gasket may be leaking a little.

The coil i got from tractor supply said online it was listed as an internal resistor but it says no such thing in the package

It will usually be written on the coil itself some place if it requires an external resistor. A member here purchased one not too long ago (not sure from where) that had the right package / wrong coil. Some times you just have to verify.

Its got the internal resistor. I even swapped the old coil back and the one from the b100 and it dors the same thing. I think the mixture is messed up and a leaky head gasket doesn't help

You said 'white' puff of smoke? White smoke will indicate oil burning - fuel smoke will be black, and a small leak that your head gasket seems to show would not give this indication. A sudden stop with white smoke unfortunately often indicates an internal problem allowing oil to get into the combustion chamber......

Confirm you have spark and fuel and if so and it had been running ---

Yes i have spark and fuel. It has run several times now but never longer than 1 minute. Sometimes a few backfires, once it reved fairly high but mostly it hovers in limbo where its running very slow on the verge of stopping with little to no throttle response. Its odd to say the least. I spent most of my time working on cars and trucks and its funny how these small engines have me scratching my head

Looking at at the service manual will answer your question about the brass screws and tell you how to adjust them.

You are not pestering anyone. None of us were born knowing anything about a :wh: and others taught us what we know, just passing the favors on to you and others. This site is heavily populated with helpful people and the only stupid question is the one that isn't asked!
