Dual Wheels 2 #1 Posted March 31, 2009 I'm sure you guy's remember this..... Well 4 tons of #3 limestone...22 inces of ag tire on each side with 300 plus pounds of weight in the weight box...get in a little bind and...SNAP...you end up with this I put the FEL on another 520 H...minus the duals
T-Mo-(Moderator) 4,345 #2 Posted March 31, 2009 Ouch, that hurt. I think you found the weight limit. :omg:
Docwheelhorse 2,560 #3 Posted March 31, 2009 And they said the differential was the weak link. I bet that axle had a problem since day 1 and it just finally gave up. Does it look like it twisted itslef in half? Tony
treepatrol 0 #4 Posted March 31, 2009 Actually I was thinking about what duals do more traction more stability but They also increase the pressure on the axle right where yours snapped they act like a fulcrum being levered? Bummer :omg:
Rollerman 290 #5 Posted March 31, 2009 DW Ouch....thats hurts just looking at it. If we had a gallery for "Busted & Broken" this would the photo of the month. Do you have parts on hand to fix this one?
C-Series14 15 #6 Posted March 31, 2009 One of the many reasons I took my duals off. The dual system works for the stability reasons but get on uneven ground and the outer tire becomes the culprit! Seen several farm tractors do the same thing. I have 10.50's, wheel weights, and 8 each 40 lb. suitcase weights on the back and it has been worthy for many years. Just keep the load low.....and watch the bumps! I moved 20 tons over the course of a week back to my barn with the single wheel setup, took awhile but got er done!!! Nick 13 #12 Posted April 1, 2009 One thing that helps when using duals is to lower the tire pressure in the outside tire. If the inside is running 12 to 14 psi I try to run around 6 to 8 psi in the outside tire. Keeping the outer tire soft helps reduce the axle stress but still provides stability. Ive run duals on a 520, C-195 and the LR without a problem.
BTK07 0 #13 Posted April 1, 2009 If your going to take that horse out to the back 40 and shot it, Let me know. Maybe I can nurse it back to health with a little TLC. Bill
