i was wondering if anyone might know if a 12 horse kohler motor would both down the the frame of a command 8 other than changing the bottom oil pan plus would it sit to high and the hood wouldn't close ;please bear with me as something like this is all new to me as i would really like to get the commando 8 up and running ;selling for parts would be an option but really for the shape it is in for the year i would rather not 'thanks everyone and i look forward to your advise;

It should bolt down fine. I bolted down a 14 hp on a 1067 frame and the right side

bolts up from the bottom. The only issue I had was the way the oil pan drained. I just

reversed it.

Kohler engines used two types of oil pans. If it is the one that bolts directly to a :wh: frame then it will work. If it was bolted to a "Shaker Plate" the you have some work to do.

thanks so much for the input i know i might have to exchange the base but that is no problem as i would really would like to get the old 72 up and running ;but i am concerned that a 12 horse might be a little higher and effect the closing of the hood ;again this is all new to me ;again thank you so much

thanks so much for the input as far as the shaker plate that i am not sure about as again this is all new to me but i know looking at the 8 horse bolted  to the frame on the commando 8; it does sit flush now on the 12 i really don't know 'but i am concerned  that the 12 horse will sit a little higher and have issues closing the hood ;i for sure will let you know and again thanks so much as i really appreciate it

I'm curious about hood clearance too. As much to the front as overhead. Of course you wouldn't use the plate the 8hp is sitting on but it still looks tight to me. The Commando hood is more compact than the B's that followed it up. :eusa-think:

Just so everyone is on the right page, there is no 1972 Commando 8. Before we start talking about what engines will fit on what tractor, we should really know what you have. Can you give us the ID number from the tag?

Very true Bob. I just read it as Commando 800.
