Cub Cadet 2544 snowblower gear help?

Recommended Posts

ebinmaine

My boss has one of the above-listed tractors and it keeps stripping off the gears inside the snowblower gearbox.

I don't have any pictures and I have not seen it in person but I understand that the splines are very fine and keep shearing off.

He's looking for a solution that is not a welder, preferably, but he's not above doing that.

His best idea right now is to Mill In a keyway Groove...

Just wondering if anybody has any better ideas?

Go with the keyway.  I've dealt with a few of those in the past and was never impressed with them and when I needed to fix them there wasn't any parts available for the ones I was working on.  There was a few different generations that used the gearbox and depending on which one and what machine they were put on some had a pair of keyed gears or splined gears or keyed or splined sprockets with a chain

Probably a few other brands out there but this is the product that I apply to keyed shafts and splines to fill up the small gap.
