lak1965 51 #1 Posted March 17, 2019 I’m thinking about taking a 520xi transmission and putting it on a 1978 D-250. Any thoughts or comments?
wh500special 2,277 #2 Posted March 17, 2019 That sounds like an upgrade to me. You’ll lose rear implement compatibility though since the d250 has a three point hitch and transmission-driven PTO while the xi does not. Years ago I saw (on eBay) a d250 that had a John Deere 400-series rear end. Seems like a good swap since those have provisions to hang stuff and run it from the rear. steve
wh500special 2,277 #3 Posted March 17, 2019 Two things occur to me after I posted: i think the stock d250 setup has a short driveshaft downstream of the clutch feeding the rear end. That probably simplifies a swap. The other thing, which I’m sure you’d catch, is that the d250 engine might spin the opposite direction of an xi or Deere. They have their engines turned around “backwards”. Maybe this is a non-issue. Steve
