Filters, Oil and Blades

Recommended Posts

I have a 314-8 and 315-8.  I mostly buy Kohler air filters and Toro blades.  I usually upgrade to a better gas filter.  As for oil I have always used Pennzoil.  I'm new to tractors with oil filters.  So far I have used Kohler and NAPA Gold.  I'm leaning more towards the NAPA Gold.

WHX??

:text-yeahthat:All I use are NAPA or WIx (NAPA/WIX are the same filter). Stay away from Fram I been told. Oil brand doesn't matter to me a whole lot to me but frequent checking & changing does.

Blades for me are usually Oregon as they have a very broad selection.

sounds like you are on the right track , staying after your horse, when ever i change a filter, i oil fill it first to insure continuous oil feed and pressure. i always keep a spare set of blades, clean, sharp and ready , for a quick swap. Napa / wix  filters are are a very good choice , along with Pennzoil, don,t forget to regularly service the rear end oil, i usually do it after working the tractor , getting it warm helps in its draining. check your shift boot, if cracked replace it, use silicone grease on shiftier rod, makes boot replacement very easy. For years I have been using Napa (Wix), Motorcraft, and Purolator synthetic filters.  The Kmart near me seems to always mark down the models that fit my 315-8 and 520-H so I am set for those for YEARS.  OIl has been Wolf's Head and Rotella, but as others have said, changing at the proper interval is key.  All API oils have greatly improved since any Wheel Horse engine was made.

I too have several wheel horses to maintain. I buy my filters through USAfilterstore.com. I run only Wix Gold on my garden tractors. you can buy oil, air and gas filters through them

USAfilterstore.com.

Guess you would need to do a BIG order. The NAPA 1410 was just $ 5.00, but the shipping quote was $ 22.43 for the one filter.    :scared-eek:
