B-80 dies after running 15min then won't start?

Recommended Posts

Hi all, have not been here in about 5 years. My B-80 dies after running 15min then won't start? She looses power and I have to play with the choke, sometimes I can get 20 min but always ends the same. She dies and won't start till she cools down. Then I can get her going again then she will loose power over the next 10 min then die again. When she is running she seems to miss a bit, not as smooth as I would like. I dont think its the carb. Maybe the voltage regulator is going? Any help would be much appreciated.

The voltage regulator has nothing to do with the engine running, just charging the battery.

If the vent in your fuel cap is plugged the fuel pump will have a hard time working properly. Try backing off the cap a half turn and see if that helps

Thank! What does the condenser do? Where can I get one for the K-181 engine?

The condenser is a part of your ignition system and protects the ignition points from excessive arcing. To check the condenser all you need to do is remove the wire that connects it to the coil and see if that resolves the problem (you can do this for testing but not as a long term fix).

The condenser is the little silver cylinder to the right of the ignition coil.

Your symptoms also suggest a bad coil.  Do the points 1st.  If you have another horse, try switching the coils.  :occasion-xmas:

I had a tractor do something similar, turned out to be the screen on the fuel valve in the tank was plugged. Installed a new fitting without a screen, and an inline filter instead.
