Mike'sHorseBarn 3,248 #1 Posted February 18, 2019 I've been wanting to do this for years and finally this project got closer to the top of the list! This 700 belonged to my grandfather and the 7hp tecumseh engine in it never ran right and I got so sick of messing with it that I put it in the shed and there it sat for probably 10 years or so. Got this 8hp kohler about a week ago and started working on it today. Didn't get it all finished but its moving right along. The Kohler needed a little attention that kept me from getting it totally finished up in one day. A regular garden tractor battery won't fit, but I think I'll just use an ATV battery.
JoeM 8,357 #2 Posted February 18, 2019 When I was a kid, my Dad had a push mower with a Tecumseh engine. Same kind of deal, hard to start, never ran right, of course it was always my fault. I hated that Indian!

squonk 43,843 #6 Posted February 19, 2019 2nd Tecky powered pusher we had. A neighbor borrowed it once. First day they had it the carb fell off. 2nd day the bolts that hold the motor to the deck fell out. True Story.
Shynon 7,482 #7 Posted February 19, 2019 I used a small motorcycle battery on a lawn ranger I had with an 8hp kohler. About $50 at Fleet Farm

I'm not familiar with all the atv battery classes and they don't all give you the cranking amps.
The Tuul Crib 7,339 #9 Posted February 19, 2019 Mike you just can't go wrong with that 8 hp kohler. I have an 855 and that 8 is a great running motor! Starts in one or two cranks.
Mike'sHorseBarn 3,248 #10 Posted February 26, 2019 Got it all swapped over finally! Used a motorcycle battery (not cheap by the way) and she runs pretty good! 20190225_182922.mp4
