I have no idea what would or wouldn’t fit, but have wondered why no one has tried to install a 2 or 3 cylinder Kubota in a D250.

This was my thought exactly!!! :text-yeahthat:A nice lil turbo charged Kubota or Yanmar should shoe horn in nicely. If you don't like diesel power you could also go with a liquid cooled Yanmar gas. Either way I would think that most any engine could be made to work, with a little ingenuity.

@mr biggs you may also want to go on to My Old Machine to see what kind of modification's the guys across the pond have done with their Gutbrod tractors.

I'm currently foolin with D180 / 200 engines and they have a pulley off of the back crank and also the clutch part that connects to the flywheel on the front.

Pretty complicated so I can see a lot of head scratchin in your future trying to get another engine to match up with all of that.

The 250 engines were made in France and the tractor assembled in Germany (?)

My money is on keeping it stock and dealing with the Renault.

Not an answer exactly but untold times I've spent $200 on a $20 problem so good luck!

I have to chuckle when I think of my brother putting a 389 Pontiac engine in a 1934 CletTrac ( sure I spelled that wrong )   with 2 straight pipes like truckers have on their rigs standing straight up about 2 feet past the hood.  That was a lot of fun to hear him operating it with that V8 sound.  Ingenuity in spades..

Interesting thought. Depending on whether I have time this spring? I have a mid 70's groundsmaster. It currently sports the continental Renault R4. The same as my D-250. It burns alot of oil and it is going to be my Frankenstein. I am going to try to swap in a Daihatsu 20 hp diesel in it. Since the R4 is rated at 19 hp? It should be comparable. Even though the R4's have been dynoed at up to 34hp. I am going to check out the flywheel and bell housing assm. to see how close it is. Maybe a change in the D-250 could be in the future too. The D runs quite well. But, if I run into the same issues with the Solex carb as I have on the G.M.? It may need some attention.
